Our Mission

Centro Romero's mission is to create an environment where social transformation can take place by:

  • Furthering understanding of the migratory realities between Latin America and the United States
  • Providing immersion and educational opportunities in the city of Tijuana, Mexico
  • Enabling participants to enhance their political, socio-economic, and cultural views of the forces that are shaping the lives of many countries and families throughout the continent
  • Reflecting theologically on the constant migratory exchanges between both sides of the border.

Center for Education and Social Transformation
Centro Romero is one of the Centers for Education and Social Transformation, a concept created at the Justice and Witness Ministries of the United Church of Christ under the leadership of Rev. Linda Jaramillo in 2005. The Daniel F. Romero Center for Border Ministries was envisioned by Southern California- Nevada Conference Minister Rev. Dan Romero, after whom the center is named. Centro Romero was developed in partnership with the Southern California-Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ and Justice and Witness Ministries of the United Church of Christ. The Romero Center is located in San Ysidro, California, less than 20 minutes from the Mexican border city of Tijuana.
